We study the way that humans carry out a dialog and strive to encode this behaviour into our Natural Dialog Platform. DiaManT ™ is a state-of-the-art, VoiceXML compliant, Natural Dialog platform.
DiaManT was created through our own extensive experience in designing, implementing and supporting speech enabled IVR applications. Following the implementation of several applications, with increasing VUI sophistication, , it soon became apparent to our design team that the commercial technology available, such as VoiceXML IDEs and telephony servers, was lacking an important function: Practical Dialog Management.
We required a framework which would provide out-of-the-box all the best-practices we had adopted. This framework should also provide means for combating common problems associated with Natural Language dialogs, such as ASR Engine False Accept, Multiple Interpretations, out-of-step responses, error recovery and so on.
Needless to say, the framework should be 100% compatible with all applicable open standards, such as VoiceXML, CCXML, MRCP, SIP and so on.
In order to fulfill the above requiremetns, we attempted to split the total application logic into two parts:
- anything to do with generic dialog behaviour
- anything specific to the application domain
The first part formed the functional specification for the Dialog Management platform, a.k.a DiaManT. The second part is essentially the application domain configuration, which is in the form of a declarative language capable of describing the complete dialog behavior that is required.
In practical terms, the DiaManT platform "knows" how to ask questions, how to interpret responses, how to plan the sequence of dialog steps and how to do all that in an Natural Dialog environment. The application developer has to declare the inidividual questions and tune paramters that control dialog behaviour.

Can I use DiaManT with my IVR platform?
DiaManT interacts with IVR platforms through standard VoiceXML and CCXML. Therefore, it can be deployed with any IVR platform suporting those standards. So far, DiaManT has been tested with:
- IBM WebSphere Voice Response for AIX (v4.2, v6.1)
- Genesys Voice Platform v7.6
- Voxeo Prophecy v10
Furthermore, platform specific extensions have also been developed for IBM WVR and Genesys GVP in order to take advantage of propriatary functionality.
